Competent Crew
This RYA Competent Crew course teaches you the foundations of sailing and the skills needed to become an active, effective member of a yacht crew in a supportive, all-female environment. Ideal for beginners or those stepping up from dinghies, you’ll learn how to steer on a compass heading and on the wind, set and trim sails, operate winches, and coordinate team maneuvers like tacking and gybing. Together with your female crewmates, you’ll master preparing the yacht to leave and enter harbour, picking up moorings, anchoring, and essential ropework. Living aboard with your female instructor and up to 4 other students, each day blends short coastal passages with hands-on practice, including a few hours of night sailing. It’s an empowering, collaborative, and fun weekend where all meals are provided aboard, with plenty of opportunities to relax ashore in the evenings.
Day Skipper
The Day Skipper practical course is designed to build your confidence and equip you to take the helm as skipper of a yacht and crew. Supported by an experienced female instructor and a like-minded all-female crew, you will master handling a yacht under power and sail, including marina berthing, anchoring, and man overboard recovery. You’ll put practical navigation, pilotage, weather, tides, and collision rules into action as you plan and execute real passages. Above all, this course focuses on fostering a supportive environment where you can develop intuitive leadership and clear communication at the helm. You’ll live aboard for the weekend, balancing intensive skill exercises with coastal passages and night sailing, working toward your RYA Day Skipper Course Completion Certificate in an encouraging, low-pressure atmosphere.
Refresher
If you already hold qualifications or have previous sailing experience but want to blow away the cobwebs and regain your confidence, this weekend provides the perfect, stress-free refresher. Set in a welcoming, female-led environment, you can tailor the time on the water to your exact personal goals - whether that’s sharpening your close-quarters marina handling, practicing depowering the rig, or getting comfortable taking the helm again after time away from the water. With no formal assessment pressure, you’ll work alongside a supportive all-female crew to fine-tune your deckwork, brush up on navigation, and build total trust in your seamanship at a pace that suits you.
